Description

Sentinels guard the training center at night. They sit in shelters at various points of entry. This isn't unreasonable. There is tension in town. People aren't content with President Mobutu Sese Seko Kuku Ngbendu wa za Banga, The All-Conquering Warrior Who, Because of His Endurance and Inflexible Will to Win, Will Go from Conquest to Conquest Leaving Fire in His Wake. They're not content with poverty. They're not content with the Americans, either, and their involvement with Mobutu. They know about uranium, cobalt and strategic minerals. They know about President Mobutu's yacht, the Kamanyola, and Mr. Andrew, his New York City barber. There is a sign at the training center, above the administrative office, that says Institut Superier Pedagogique. The letters are painted in black above two flags (the Zairian flag and the American flag) which are intertwined. A white Range Rover is parked in front of the office next to a motorcycle. The motorcycle belongs to Wick. He's not a volunteer. He's a staff member who trains new volunteers on motorcycle maintenance, care, etc. That's him over there with the black leather vest. Notice that there's nothing beneath the vest. He likes it that way. A lot of the volunteers do, too.
